For a beachfront home in Ocean City, New Jersey, Melissa & Miller Interiors created a sophisticated seaside retreat designed around family, connection, and an easy rhythm of living. With the owners’ adult children and grandchildren in neighboring homes, the house needed to feel equally comfortable for two or twenty, accommodating everything from quiet mornings to spontaneous dinners and afternoons by the pool.
Working within the home’s distinctive architecture, Melissa & Miller embraced its changing ceiling heights, unexpected angles, and expansive ocean views. A soaring wood-clad ceiling connects the main living spaces, while deep green cabinetry, natural oak, warm stone, richly figured woods, and tactile textiles create a sense of continuity throughout.
Rather than relying on a traditional coastal palette, the interiors take their cues from the landscape more subtly. Moss and forest green, dusty rose, tobacco, cream, and pale blue are layered with organic forms, natural fibers, sculptural furnishings, and handcrafted details. Pattern and materiality give individual rooms their own character, from enveloping wallcoverings and richly tiled bathrooms to custom upholstery and collected objects.
The result is a beach house that feels connected to its setting without being defined by it: sophisticated yet relaxed, richly layered rather than themed, and designed as much around the family coming through the door as the ocean beyond the windows.
